One moment the boy would be fine and the next he'd break into a wail of tears. No one really liked that big dog of his. It was good in a fight but no one was ever comfortable around it. The thing only seemed to like the kid and had an acceptance with the Dragon Lady. Everyone else was just there. The thing had growled at Jack once, or so some of the stories say. But Scamp... Everyone liked Scamp. Everyone. To see the kid so upset was probably just as bad as their Warchief being upset. It just didn't sit well.
Of course, this was not the only thought to be contended with. The Halloweeners were making a very big push into the District and their attacks had not ceased. Many fighters were dispatched across the District to help maintain the area but despite being the Dragon's home turf, the Halloweeners outnumbered them. The Dragons Reborn were made up primarily of trust worthy souls. In the Underground, that's saying, they're likely to smile and nod before stabbing you in the chest. Jack had been meticulous to make sure the men were at least partially trained and weren't complete social rejects. Despite having wiped out most of the gangs that were around before, it still left them limited in man power.
Little by little over the two weeks, the Halloweeners made more and more ground. Any major excursion that broke out with Jack or Xiadra present, was won swiftly and decisively but it seemed they were still doing no better. Those stock piles of supplies Judas had brought were helping.
As for the Order themselves, they had assimilated into the surrounding area without a trace.
Jack, with Slevin's help would have made great strides on his project weapon, the prototype was almost finished, perhaps in another few hours.
Xiadra, with Baxtor's supervision, would allow Slevin to talk with his AI friend but nothing more than verbal. At time's Slevin, may something innocuous and the conversation would aburptly end and the small device would be carted off.
Joseph continued his training with Baxtor ad would find that not only was his control over his appearance and abilities growing rapidly but the man had hinted at applications that were never considered. The charts of muscles, nerves, and ligaments, which at first annoyed Joseph would make sense. Baxtor was teaching him about the Terran body. By associating with Baxtor and being accepted by Xiadra, Joseph had gained an acceptance at the Mill.
Dawn was Jack's shadow. No one really spoke to her or vice versa. Prin of course glared needles into the girl and there was a running pool of when Prin would murder the girl. For the most part, the gang ignored the woman and so her disappearances weren't noteable. Why would they be when everyone had so much on their mind?
